Studio Lambert developing Ant and Dec’s Street Car Showdown for BBC Two

Studio Lambert and Ant and Dec’s production company Mitre Television are coproducing a pilot for BBC Two of a new entertainment show called Street Car Showdown in which teams convert second-hand cars and race them in competition.

The idea was devised by Ant and Dec who “have been fascinated with this world since we were teenagers in the North East and experienced car modders met up on Roker seafront in Sunderland to show off their creations.”

ABC orders Craig Ferguson-hosted game show The Hustler from Studio Lambert

ABC  has ordered The Hustler, a new mystery-based game show hosted by Craig Ferguson and produced by Studio Lambert in LA.

Based on an original format by British TV and radio host Richard Bacon, each episode follows five contestants as they collaborate to answer a series of trivia questions, with the goal of building a collective prize pot that increases with each correct answer. The catch? One of the five contestants, the Hustler, already knows the answers but must keep their identity a secret.

Channel 4 orders Xmas themed Buy It Now for peak-time

Channel 4 has commissioned a Christmas-themed series of Buy It Now from Studio Lambert North.

Hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal, the studio entertainment show returns to give sellers and inventors the chance to sell innovations to an audience of real shoppers. C4 has handed the format a new peak-time slot for a four-part series.

Studio Lambert’s The Nest will star Line of Duty’s Martin Compston and Peaky Blinders’ Sophie Rundle

Line of Duty’s Martin Compston and Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle have teamed up for new The Nest, and we’re getting The Hand That Rocks the Cradle meets Jenna Coleman’s The Cry vibes already.

The five-part Studio Lambert thriller series for BBC One follows loved-up couple Dan (Martin) and Emily (Sophie), who live in a huge house in a beautiful location just outside Glasgow and want for nothing. All that’s missing is a baby, but they’ve been trying for years with no luck.

Through a chance encounter they meet Kaya (played by newcomer Mirren Mack), an 18-year-old from the other side of the city, whose life is as precarious as theirs is comfortable. When Kaya agrees to carry their baby, it feels like they were meant to meet… so was it really by chance?

The emotional thriller throws up troubling questions such as who is Kaya, and what has brought her to this couple? Can the dreams of Kaya, Emily and Dan be fulfilled or have all three embarked on a relationship of mutually assured destruction?

BBC Two renews Race Across The World for two more seasons

BBC Two has handed a two season renewal to Race Across The World; picking up the hit series for a second and third season. Eight episodes have been ordered for each of the two additional seasons.

The bumper renewal comes after the show’s first season, which aired this spring, managed a consolidated average audience of 2.5 million viewers. The final episode was the highest rated episode of a new factual entertainment title on BBC Two since 2016.

Hires and promotions for Studio Lambert drama team

Studio Lambert’s scripted division has promoted Maddie Sinclair from head of development to executive producer and hired James Gandhi from Mammoth Screen as head of development.

“Maddie has been an outstanding head of development and I’m delighted she is going to be stepping up to take on an executive producing role,” says Susan Hogg, Studio Lambert’s head of drama, “and James is a hugely talented drama creative who has already made his mark on our expanding slate. We are absolutely thrilled that he has joined the team at such an exciting time for Studio Lambert drama.“

Emma Willis will host the next series of The Circle later this year. The series will be made by Studio Lambert North in Greater Manchester and will feature more live episodes than last year, all hosted by Emma.

The Feed selected for competition at Canneseries 2019

Canneseries, the annual TV festival running alongside the MIPTV content market in Cannes, has unveiled the competition line-up for its second edition (April 5-10) and Studio Lambert’s forthcoming series for Amazon and Liberty Global is one of ten new series selected for competition.

London-set psychological thriller stars David Thewlis in the dystopian tale as the inventor of a brain implant that allows people to share thoughts and emotions alongside Guy Burnet, Michelle Fairley and Nina Toussaint-White as his family members.

Channel 4 orders second series of The Circle

The second series will have an extended run, a weekly live episode and ‘more mischief’.

The re-commission follows the news that Netflix ordered three international versions of the format for the US, Brazil and France.

All the international versions will use the same building as the UK version.

The C4 version is the first commission for Studio Lambert North, the company’s new Manchester division.
