Studio Lambert North launches in Manchester

Studio Lambert is setting up a regional base in Manchester and has hired Darrell Olsen in the new role of head of unscripted, Studio Lambert North.

Olsen has been the executive producer of BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den for the last two years and was previously series editor of the popular business show.

Production of some of the company’s returning series will move to Manchester next year and new series will also be developed and produced there.

Netflix orders three versions of The Circle

Netflix has bought the global rights (ex-UK) of Studio Lambert’s new social experiment reality format The Circle. Studio Lambert and Motion Content will produce three series, one for the US and the other two for countries yet to be announced, from a UK production hub.

The UK version launched on Channel 4 in September and aired daily in primetime for three weeks. It proved to be particularly popular with younger viewers attracting twice as many 16-34 year old viewers than average for Channel 4.

“The Circle has already proven to be a compelling, timely, and buzzworthy show,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix Vice President of Unscripted Content. “We think the show’s combination of modern social media interaction and competition will captivate Netflix members around the world, in multiple languages, and we’re delighted to partner with Studio Lambert and Motion to produce these three new local versions.”

Three Girls wins the Prix Italia

Three Girls has won the award for best TV drama at this year’s prestigious Prix Italia in Capri.

The judges said it was a powerful series, which tells a terrible but true story with a modern and engrossing direction. Three great young actresses lead us through a journey to the hell with empathy and deep understanding.

BBC Two has commissioned an ambitious new factual-entertainment series from Studio Lambert.

Race Across the World pits travellers against each other in a challenging race to reach the Far East without taking a single flight.

BBC One commissions The Nest

BBC One has announced the commission of The Nest,  a new six episode series from Nicole Taylor, the BAFTA award-winning writer of Three Girls, which will be produced by Studio Lambert with Sue Hogg as executive producer.

It is a six-part fictional drama that explores the consequences of a pact between a wealthy couple and a teenage girl that changes all of their lives forever.

E4 commissions Club Rep Wars

The sizzling world of summer jobs in the sun is explored in this new show in which two teams of wannabe club reps compete to win the chance to work a season on the party island of Zante.

Each week a new arrival will spend time with two separate teams of reps, getting a crash course in the job and helping to put on fun packed events and activities to help holiday makers have the time of their lives.

Once each new recruit has worked, lived, and partied with both teams, they’ll have to decide which of the two has what it takes to bring the most fun, throw the best beach parties and help them bag the overall prize – a job as a club rep for the rest of the summer.

Jack Burgess steps up to run Studio Lambert USA

Jack Burgess has been given acting responsibility for running Studio Lambert’s Los Angeles based American business following the departure of Greg Goldman.

Goldman had been with the company for five years and has left to pursue new challenges.

Channel 4 orders primetime reality show The Circle from Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group

The Circle is a new popularity competition in which contestants are only able to communicate with one another via a bespoke voice-activated social media platform.

It will air on Channel 4 in the autumn.

Three Girls continues awards success at the BAFTAs

Three Girls has continued its remarkable success this awards season by winning two major awards at last night’s television BAFTA awards.

The show won the best drama mini-series and Molly Windsor surprised many by winning the award for best female actor.

The awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall and broadcast on BBC One.

Guy Burnet (Counterpart), Nina Toussaint White (EastEnders), David Thewlis (Harry Potter) and Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones) are set to star in Studio Lambert’s upcoming social media-infused sci-fi psychological thriller drama The Feed for Amazon Prime Video, Liberty Global and all3media international. The series is set to launch globally next year.

Burgess and O’Driscoll promoted to new development roles

Jack Burgess has been promoted to SVP, development and current, for Studio Lambert USA and moves to the company’s Los Angeles base. He was has been head of development for UK unscripted for the last four years.

At the same time, Niall O’Driscoll from the UK the development team has been promoted to head up UK unscripted development in his place.

Three Girls continued its winning streak picking up the award for Best Mini-Series at the Royal Television Society’s Programme Awards and for Best Mini-Series at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.

Mike Cotton promoted to Deputy Creative Director

Mike Cotton has been promoted to the newly-created position of deputy creative director.

Reporting to creative director Tim Harcourt, Cotton will work with the unscripted development team to develop and sell new series while continuing to executive produce Studio Lambert’s new and returning series.

He has been with the company since its launch ten years ago, joining permanently in 2011, and has worked in both the company’s London and LA offices.

Amazon and Liberty Global back Studio Lambert’s sci-fi thriller The Feed with Walking Dead writer

Studio Lambert has secured the backing of Amazon, Liberty Global and All3 International for a first season of ten episodes of psychological thriller The Feed.

The showrunner is Channing Powell, writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead.

Four in a row at the NTAs for Gogglebox

Once again Gogglebox triumphed at the National Television Awards winning the Best Factual Entertainment Award.

Broadcast on ITV, cast members Ellie and Izzi received the award and dedicated it to Leon Bernicoff who died last month.
